Experience is the only teacher.

One of the very famous and very true saying is

“Experience is the only teacher.”

This is very true, but many times not understood properly.

When you read this is comes to mind that when you experience something , you learn from it . This is true but not complete.

No where the saying says the experience has to be only yours . It could be of others .

You can learn not only from your experiences but also others .

People who fail to learn from their experiences turn out to be failures .

People who learn from their experiences turn out to be success but they take long time to achieve it .

People who learn from their experiences and others grow very fast .

So keep learning from all the experiences of everyone.

Physics law drive Human Behaviour also

I was just speaking to a friend that day about connection between Physics laws and those laws applying to human behavior.

Newtons law - Inertia – Resistance to change .

Goes same for humans , we have high resistance to change .

Einsteins – Theory of relativity.

Even we judge everything on the basis of who and where we are .

Darwins Theory – Survival of the fittest.

How true is that for humans .

Ohms law . ( not sure it comes in ohms law but there is a law which says current always takes the path of minimum resistance ).

Humans take the path of minimum pain.

Hmmmm interesting.


Change or Not to Change

Two things which differentiate humans from other living things are

  • Humans change the surroundings according to their needs.
  • Humans built tools to do things.

These two things are very important.

But in accordance to the first point in surroundings we include other people also.

We want people around us to be like how we want them to be.

Similarly people around us want us to change.

But as people we resist change. And so do them. J So it’s the chicken and egg problem.

And what happens is there are some qualities which are so obvious to us that people should have because we have learnt that behavior from years and now. So it’s very obvious to us that the other person should have a particular behavior trait. But as the other person is brought up differently and gone through different experiences has different behavior traits.

So if you feel that some person around you is doing something wrong try to tell him that he is doing wrong.

Don’t tell him to change. Make him realize he has to change.

Because both might be right in their places.


Similarly when somebody tells you to change think of it with an open mind and see if a change is really necessary.

And only if you feel it is necessary change.

Because the person telling you might have a different perspective of things which might right or wrong for you.

Goals - Hit on them

Can you shoot a target you cannot see . Not unless you are as great as arjun(mahabharat).

I don’t think we normal people can shoot the target you cannot see.

Can you built software without knowing the requirements.

Even a five year will anwer these questions . These sound like obvious facts .

But when it come to us the same facts seem so blur.

We don’t know what is our goal .

A goal is something which can be measured in quantity and in time .

I heard people saying they have goals like

  • I want to own a company.
  • I want to help others
  • I want to be successful in my career

.

Are these goals . Nope they are wishes .

Your Wishes should drive your goals .

Goals for the above e.g could be

  • In two years (by jan 2009) I will have Product X which my company will be selling and I will have 10 employees under me with a turn over of Y.
  • I will teach 3 students maths who are poor by the end of 2007.
  • I will make sure that I have become TG2 in next 3 yrs (by jan 2010) .

These are some long term (or medium duration goals set for the wishes we have).

Now you should set goals for the current year , current month, current week, current day such that you can measure them .

Goals have to be realistic in the sense the should not be over or under ambitious .

How to set such goals ? Know yourself . and with experience and evaluating whether you could complete your previous goals or no you learn and set goals appropriately.

Write down Goals on paper. This helps in laying stress on it .

Read you long term goals everyday. This helps us focus.

I am very bad at goal settings . But will improve .

Whenever something is going wrong in life you just need to learn a new skill .

So simple yet so difficult.

Free Or Fair

Most of us in life sometime would have said that life not fair.

This is true, life is not fair, it is free.


But do we really want it to be fair.

If it was fair everyone would be doing the same thing, same work.

If it was fair we all would start from the same level in everything .


So for E.g –

Even if one person is born blind all of us should be blind if we have to be totally fair.

Everything given to us could not be decided by us because to be fair it has to be same for all.


So its good that life is not fair . It is free .

We can choose .


So we only want life to be fair when we are on receiving end .

I have only seen people crib in practical exams when they get a tough program then others , and people call themselves lucky when they get a easy one , but that time no one speaks about being fair .

That’s how human nature is .

So we want life to be free when its good to us and fair to be bad to us .

Which does not happen as life is free and not fair .

And good its not fair .
